NOF Sport Development Team

This team has five members


Grant Howieson - Sport Development Officer

Gavin Taylor - Active Steps Development Officer

Paul Tyler - Rugby Development Officer

Stuart Rafferty - Football Youth Development Officer

Mary Dockerty - Administrator


They cover 31 primary schools and 8 secondary schools. The age range is from 5 - 16 (Stuart may be older)

 

Grant Howieson, Sport Development Officer

The sports Grant concentrates on are:

Basketball, hockey, athletics, badminton, netball, tennis (part time DO), cricket (part time DO) and swimming (Help Robert Hamilton who is development officer).

Main points of his job are;

     - Increase participation

     - Give opportunities to try a variety of sports

     - Form a pathway

Also another main point is Coach Development

Currently he does not have enough qualified coaches. He has enlisted the help of qualified teaching members of school staff who have an interest in a particular sport and has encouraged them to partake in further developing their shills so as to enable them to hold lunchtime and after school clubs e.g. Basketball Club.

He has notified all primary and secondary school head teachers of various courses being offered by Glasgow Council's Sports & leisure Services Department and has offered to help with funding.

 

Gavin Taylor, Active Steps Coordinator

Gavin works in the SIP's area. He is trying to steer 5 - 16 years olds away from trouble and into sports and other activities. Works closely with the Social Services Department.

 

Paul Tyler, Rugby Development Officer

Paul's main tasks are;

     - Coach Education (Club, School)

     - Participation of all Primary and Schools

     - Festivals / Easter and Summer Camps

     - School Visits

There are two clubs in Inverclyde, Greenock Wanderers and Birkmyre.

With these teams he aims to;

     - Increase numbers playing at clubs

     - Run SRU Pathway scheme

     - Coach New Image & Tag Rugby

     - Raise profile of rugby in the area

 

Stuart Rafferty, Youth Football Development Officer

Stuart focuses on the youths, he arranges for football coaches to go into the local primary and secondary schools and increase the profile of football in the area.
